Flagler Schools Releases Post-Storm Schedule
Earlier this week, Florida Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart announced school districts which closed due to Hurricane Irma will be able to waive two of the closure days. Flagler School District had built additional days into their calendar, and therefore will have one day to make up.
Flagler Schools will use Monday, October 16th as that day. Students will report to school on October 16th, which was originally scheduled as a teacher work day. By using this date for our make-up day we will not need to impose on the Thanksgiving break at this time.
Flagler Schools makes every effort to ensure our students get the instructional time they need and deserve. Closing schools and keeping them shut down following a disaster like Hurricane Irma is not an easy decision. We understand the value of instructional time cannot be underestimated, which is why our Calendar Committee worked tirelessly over the summer to create a calendar with some leeway as it relates to weather events.
Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager states, “I am sensitive to our families desire to keep posted holiday breaks and sincerely hope we do not have to deal with any other unforeseen circumstances that would require us to utilize our November make-up days.”
